The directing of a funeral involves the provision of a number of expert and professional services and the use of a variety of equipment.

From the time that first instructions are received until the funeral director and chauffeurs return the family to their home after the funeral, an average of forty man hours of work will have been expended. The work involved includes deciding with the family on the detailed arrangements for either burial or cremation, booking the church, minister and crematorium or cemetery; attending to the necessary legal formalities and to the administrative work required to ensure that all participants and staff are in the right place at the right time; the removal of the deceased to our premises; the preparation and hygienic treatment of the deceased; and finally the conducting of the funeral itself.

In providing these services, we will make available a wide variety of equipment including an ambulance for the removal of the deceased; a hearse and limousines for the conducting of the funeral; and refrigeration, mortuary and embalming facilities. We also provide suitable reception premises and Chapels of Rest, in which relatives and friends may visit the deceased. These facilities are on a 24-hour basis.

We, in addition, arrange funerals in other parts of the country and organise repatriation for a funeral in the UK or abroad, including attending to necessary permits and documentation.

Carrying on the family tradition is a way of life for many independent funeral directors

The independent funeral profession has a long and proud history of personal service to local communities. Carrying on the family tradition is a way of life for many independent funeral directors. They are deeply committed to upholding professional standards. Some of the oldest, continuously operated businesses in the United Kingdom are locally owned family firms.

In all forms of business today there are big, international companies that have made their profits through taking over small firms. The funeral profession is no exception. Many businesses have been swallowed up by the giants. The trouble is, there usually isn’t any change of name to tell you of the difference. That makes is hard for you to distinguish between the family-owned firm and the conglomerate. Without asking, you might never know if the owners your family has trusted over the years continue to make the decisions which will affect the service you receive when you need to make funeral arrangements.

It’s important that you know who you’re speaking to – an independent funeral director or just one of the branches of a vast conglomerate. When you need the services of a funeral director, you should turn to the firm which has an investment in your community, established over many years.

All our attention is concentrated on satisfying the needs of our friends and neighbours. We are not distracted or bound by corporate rules handed down from head office. We are flexible and responsive to your needs.

This is our business. Our neighbourhood is your neighbourhood. We take great pride in our funeral home and our vehicles. We are also proud of our staff, for whom we maintain a regular training programme to make sure of the highest level of professional service.

Not only do we want to meet your current needs, we also seek to build a relationship of trust, so that you will return to us in the future. We have a long commitment to our community. This is where we live and work. It’s where we plan to stay. When you need us, we’ll be here.

Large concerns answer to shareholders. We answer to you. In our locally owned firm, there is no pressure from head office to increase profits. We know our business will do well when we serve you well.

Funeral traditions vary greatly around the country. We know and appreciate local customs and expectations, because we have served in this community for years. On the other hand, the staff and management assigned to a funeral home from a national company may be from another area. Ignorance of local traditions might cause disappointment when expectations are not met.

Some 60% of funerals throughout the country are arranged by independents. We are proud and privileged that an independent family owned, and managed funeral director was chosen to carry out the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales.

We are proud to be members of the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors, the only professional organisation in the UK exclusively dedicated to serving the local independent family-owned funeral director and his or her community.

Though we are locally owned, we’re not limited in our service. Through our membership of the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors, we can assist your family in the event of a death occurring away from home. This is made even easier when arrangements have been made in advance through a pre-paid funeral plan.

We believe they are the best plans for our clients and for independent funeral directors. Because a Golden Charter plan enables you to cover every possible funeral cost in advance, we can guarantee that, once the plan is paid for, neither your family nor estate will be asked for a penny more for the arrangements selected. In addition, there is the important principle of freedom of choice. All Golden Charter plan members can select any firm they wish. That’s good for the future of family-owned businesses and their local communities. Before purchasing a funeral plan, it is always wise to consult the funeral director you intend to use because some funeral plan companies restrict your choice of funeral director. Also, the family may well be asked to pay more at the time of the funeral because the plan may not allow you to fully cover all costs. From pre-paid funeral plans to aftercare services, you can count on us to meet every requirement. Planning-ahead

Just as you do, we turn to local firms for services and products. We choose to do business with people we know and trust. Whenever possible, we also support local charities and community organisations.

Because we understand the needs of the community, we can best provide special services to local families. From pre-paid funeral plans to aftercare services, you can rely on us to meet every requirement.

We’re part of your community. Treat us as family. We will always be here when you need us. When your family suffers the loss of a loved one, it can be comforting to know your funeral director. We take every effort to be involved in our community and to create the kind of personal relationship which leads to individual, sensitive service.

If you’re like most people, you find it’s easier to deal with people when you know. You like the flexibility and personal service. We feel the same way.

Whether you need our advice when choosing a pre-paid funeral plan or information on the choice of funeral services available and costs, we fully understand the sensitivity of such enquiries and that time is required for decisions to be made. So, if you would like a friendly chat with no pressure or obligation please call. And especially if you need our immediate assistance at the time of death, remember we are here to serve you 24 hours a day, every day of the year. After all, we’re part of the community.
We will always be here when you need us.
